  1. Hello all!

Firstly, I would like to recognize that you mentioned a disclaimer regarding some of the heavy topics & concepts and I think that these trigger warnings are important as they are considerate and empathetic to the audience. I thought everyone did a great job presenting and spent time looking up and engaging with the audience. The powerpoint included both a downstream and an upstream approach, and you provided excellent critiques of the solutions you chose not to use as well as demonstrated their strengths. I agreed that the best solution seemed to be mandatory education for health care professionals, and agreed fully with your rationale. Strengths based approaches and involvement of Indigenous elders in the implementation of this education in health care facilities could provide good insights and collaboration for both Indigenous and Western worldviews. Great presentation!

  2. Hello all.
I would like to say that I really enjoyed your presentation. It was well done; I love the fact that you all began with a disclaimer at the beginning which I thought was very thoughtful and considerate to the audience. I also appreciated how you started with a quick review of the story before diving into the presentation. This provided a bit of background and gave a glimpse of the issues at hand. The presentation was well distributed among group members, well organized, and visually appealing graphics. You also talked about strengths and weaknesses in your given solution. For instance, the group stated that in solution one the strength was that it promoted the Indigenous perspectives while its weakness was that it was more of a downstream approach and that puts more responsibility on First Nations rather than Interior health. Furthermore, I loved your priority solution which primarily focused on mandatory education for healthcare workers. I believe the first step to change is through educating those that are involved, which is vital if we expect changes to happen. Reviewing your solutions at the end of the presentation was a good way to remind the audience. I thought the presentation was engaging, you all were involved in answering questions that the audience had. In terms of suggestions there were a couple of times that it was hard to hear what the group members were saying, and also I would suggest briefly going through your agenda before starting the presentation. In that it would help guide the audience. Other than that well done everyone!!!!!

  3. Hello all!
I would firstly like to say that I really enjoyed your presentation. You all spoke in a very clear way and it was easy to listen to the presentation from the back of the class. I appreciate how you opened your presentation with a land acknowledgement and also talked about the “Calls to Action”. By understanding the Calls to Action and using this as a guide to develop solutions for your situation, I feel as though you all really excelled at this. I found it very helpful that you split the environmental scan into downstream and upstream approaches. This was very useful to see what the community may be lacking in terms of preventative measures. When your group discussed the first solution, I found it interesting that one of your group members had a personal experience with the solution. Seeing this kind of solution through practice and being able to reflect on the pros and cons of a solution before implementing it into Interior Health was very helpful to see. The first solution seemed to be geared towards nurses specifically, so it was nice to see that some of your other solutions included patients as well. For the second solution, I enjoyed how your group used a strategy that has been implemented abroad. The presentation states that solution two provides activities for men to develop interpersonal skills; it would have been nice to see an example of an activity and include statistics (if available) about the success of the strategy. Solution three was geared towards education for healthcare workers, which I find that Interior Health and nursing school is lacking significantly. Your group included a statistic that showed how relevant this strategy is for any health organization. Although, it may have been a good idea to include an in-text citation to show what reference this information came from. The priority solution provided seemed like an enhanced version of solution three, which I found to be really awesome! Your group addressed trauma-informed care and also talked about making this strategy more accessible to everyone by having a choice of virtual or in person sessions. Your group did a great job of answering everyone’s questions and acknowledging that this issue is still work in progress. The aesthetics of the powerpoint slides and the images you added to the slides made the presentation very appealing and fun to follow. I suggest that potentially splitting up the information into smaller sides would be good for future presentations. The references used for your presentation are relevant and up to date; your group used Interior Health, Fraser Health, and government websites for most information it seems like. Overall, your group did an amazing job creating the powerpoint and presenting the information!!
