  1. Hi all,

Firstly, great job on your presentation! I really liked the video you played at the start, I felt that it gave the audience a good understanding of how parents of chronically ill children may feel. I also enjoyed the images you included within your slides, however I felt that your slides lacked colour. Next time I would recommend including more colour within your slides and text. I also noticed some of your slides had significant text compared to others which made it feel a bit overwhelming. Perhaps you could try to stick to small key points for each slide or divide your content between multiple slides, for example having your rationale on one slide and strengths and challenges on another. You all did a great job speaking to your content, you were well heard and clear even from my position in the back of the room. You also were well informed of your content as you were able to answer questions eloquently.
As for your content, I think you did a good job of explaining how the health outcomes of parents to chronically ill children has an effect on the children themselves in order to fit your chosen population. I think you also had great solutions to this problem and you provided appropriate rationales and strengths and challenges for each of your solutions. I specifically thought your priority solution of mandatory screening was a great solution as it was appropriate for your chosen population and easily achievable. Lastly, great job on your references. You had an adequate amount of references which were within the expected five year timeframe. As well, they were from varied sources which indicated that you looked at your problem from a larger lens.
Overall, I enjoyed your presentation! Great job everyone!

  2. Hi guys,
Thanks for a great presentation on your topic. I thought that each member of your group spoke clearly with good volume. The slideshow was clear and easy to read with the font style and size appropriate to read. I appreciate how your group addressed the change in topic from poster to presentation. I like how you added different images and symbols on the slides to engage viewers. The layout of the slideshow was well done, maybe adding a few more points to the description of each solution would be beneficial for the viewers. I enjoyed the video you guys chose, it was a creative way to introduce the topic of parents having chronically ill children. You guys described the impacts of your population scenario well. I think your environmental scan was well done. You guys sought out many resources throughout Canada that are relevant to your issue. Are there any local resources in Kamloops for this situation?
I thought that all three of the solutions your group presented were well done and innovative for your issue.
Solution 1 – Peer mentorship: I agree with you guys that the strength of this solution is the accessibility. Parents/children can access these groups/peers from anywhere. I think it could be a very positive solution to help parents connect with others going through the same situation. I do wonder how feasible this solution would be to implement in Kamloops. Are there adequate resources to set something up like this in a local context? I agree with you guys that this is not the priority solution.
Solution 2 – Act & Mindfulness: This is a creative solution that involves an online website, psychologists, and a module workshop for parents. This is something I have not heard of before for this specific population. I think that participation may be a barrier to the feasibility of this solution. How will you get parents to participate in the online modules? It also takes away from in-person contact, which you guys mentioned in your challenges. I do like how this can be accessed from anywhere and does not require being in a specific location. Many parents may not have access to the internet or technology, which is a barrier to this solution.
Solution 3 – Screening: I agree that this should be the priority solution. Screening for parental burnout/stress is a quantitative approach to ensuring that parents will be connected with proper resources and support. Screening is something that nurses can complete and does not take up much time. I wonder how feasible it would be to develop a screening tool and have it implemented, it may be a timely project. I could see this solution being used in pediatric-focused centers like BC Children’s Hospital, but may be underutilized in other tertiary hospitals.
10 references were used that appear credible, cited in APA. I noticed one reference was from outside the 2019-2023 time frame listed in the rubric.

    Great job guys!

  3. Hey, Children’s group!
The group clearly described the issues the Children’s group is trying to resolve. The population was children; however, the presentation was geared toward caregivers/parents of children facing chronic/complex health challenges rather than children.
The group discussed three resources that could be implemented in Kamloops or local regions to address the identified issue: the Connected Care program at SickKids in Toronto, the Slocan Centre in Vancouver, set to open in 2028, and the Family Connections Centre in BC.
The evidence-based literature incorporated throughout the presentation was adequate; ten recent and credible references (except for one out of the time range) depicted groups’ knowledge of the population, problem and solutions, cited in APA.
The content presented is well organized, flows well and supports understanding of the content. Utilizes various colour gradients well to convey their knowledge and keep the audience’s understanding of the population, problem and solutions. Presenters respond adequately to the audience’s questions and comments.
Each solution has a clear description, rationale, successes and challenges, and the priority solution. 1. Peer mentorship: connection with peers from the same population; I appreciate their challenges listed, as this solution will require time and participation from the community. I agree with the group, as it could be a significant challenge if their peer is also facing the same situation with a child with chronic or complex complications. 2. ACT (acceptance and commitment Therapy) & Mindfulness; wed-based to aid in acceptance and self-compassion; challenge for access of digital literacy, participation, loss of in-person component. 3. Screening: Priority solution; a tool that nurses can utilize to quantify parental distress and burnout; does not provide direct care, timely and tedious to develop a screening tool.
    Overall, well-done group!

  4. Hi Team,
Great job on your presentation. The poster includes all required components and a thorough description of the situation. I think you did an excellent job of comprehensively analyzing your situation and each potential solution. I thought it was unique how you chose to focus on the perspective of the parents and found solutions to support them. Your environmental scan was detailed and thorough. Although you made it clear in the beginning what the problem was and why it was important, I found that I had a bit of difficulty connecting your solutions to the problem at times, maybe a quick reminder and concise explanation as to how the solutions would solve the problem would be beneficial. For your solutions you discussed peer mentorship, mindfulness, and screening. I appreciated that all your solutions were unique and different from one another. Your priority solution was screening. You were very thorough and I thought it was great that you were able to use information from an interview with a nurse. You made a great point on the importance of standardization vs casual conversation about how parents are coping. I was blown away by your professional speaking and presenting skills, you seemed rehearsed and well prepared. I really appreciated how concise the video that you used within the presentation was; it gave some context without taking over your whole presentation. The visual appeal of your presentation was great too and easy to read on the screen. You used the required amount and recency of references. You were very prepared to answer questions and your presentation lead to some thought provoking conversation. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation and was very impressed with the quality of solutions you were able to come up with. Great job!
