  1. Hi All,

Thank you for getting up in front of the class and providing solutions to such a complex topic. I wanted to address the 3 identified solutions. The first solution of postpartum care, a centre in Korea, I thought provided a great solution. I think this was relevant to single mothers because they often lack support from a partner and this solution provides that help they may be missing. Although this would be a wonderful solution in Kamloops, I don’t think this would be feasible. This is a costly solution not only for the government but for the single mothers who would be utilizing this facility. The second solution was E-health and I think this is a good solution for Kamloops. I like how e-health is becoming more of an emerging strategy in health, especially with many mothers having access to cell phones. I did like how you addressed your specific mother you were focusing on those who did not have access to electronic devices and this is a huge barrier to implementing this solution. The third solution and priority solution was centering pregnancy. I liked how you made this your priority solution and it was feasible to all. It didn’t exclude those who are financially struggling or without access to technology like the other 2 solutions. The solution provided a safe space for single mothers to have a continuity of care during prepartum, birth, and postpartum. This is relevant for Kamloops as we have single mothers who need support, however, this community is lacking this care. I think it was important you addressed the challenges such as lack of healthcare providers and a shift of mindset from individual care to group support.

The presentation was well done. The font size of the powerpoint was legible. The images were relative to the information on the slide. I liked how the layout provided some information but then each group member expanded as it made the slides less overwhelming. For next time, I would add the references to the end of the slideshow for everyone to see. Each presenter spoke clearly. I thought you guys did well when recognizing if your voice was too low and made an effort to speak louder as not everyone is conformable in public speaking. The presentation showed engagement with the Slido and it was creative to put in a video. In the future, I would allow more time to review the Slido answers. You could do this by setting time aside for the answer at the end. Your references are all cited properly and are credible. I noticed you took almost all information from journals that are credible to women’s health and the medical field such as BMC Health Services Research and the Journal of Advanced Nursing.

    Well done everyone!

  2. The brief introduction was done very well; however, the group did not provide an environmental scan. Providing this would have given more reasoning on the solutions chosen. The video shown was great because it provided the information from multiple perspectives on PPD. The group also asked the class if the video was loud enough which was a nice gesture.
All solutions were listed in the presentation and included rationale, strengths/challenges and priorities. For Solution 1 I would have preferred the benefits and challenges together on the same slide and a picture that suits the solution more than the brain and hands image. Maybe a building with a mother and baby in it. The group mentioned that this is not yet implemented in Kamloops, which was great. For solution 2 I wish the group would have added what EPDS stands for, as I had to look this up on my own.
The third solution was chosen as the priority solution. The group only looked at the challenges towards implementing this project in Kamloops and not general challenges. I would have liked to know if the group sessions cost anything for the women who attend them or not. Slide twelve was a great visual step by step guide on how the sessions work. The conclusion was well done, and the group thanked the class for their participation. The group did a great job at answering the questions, especially knowing about “Hope Well” in Kamloops and that it does not offer the same options as Solution 3.

Overall, this group did a wonderful job, and the power points were organized and colorful. The topic name was missing on the first slide. I think it would have been important for this to be added so everyone knows what the group will be talking about. I appreciated the slide on Land Acknowledgement; however, a picture of TRU or Kamloops would have been a great visual addition. The font used throughout the presentation was inconsistent. On the ninth slide the title “rationale for selecting” is a smaller font. I would have like to see all titles the same size. I would have limited the number of words on each slide as this can make them cluttered and hard to follow. Instead, I recommend providing the most important information in point form on the slides. The Slido was a great addition to the presentation.

The group submitted their reference list and had ten credible resources within the last ten years, plus the Buzzfeed video. Buzzfeed videos can be a questionable resource, this one was not made by any health organization or government. It would have been better to have a video from a news outlet or health organization. The other references were all credible because they were written by experts in their field and published by journals.
There were a few mistakes in the reference list. The Green reference was spaced incorrectly. The Liu reference had the word “centering pregnancy” spelt together.

  3. Hello,
You guys did well during your presentation! It is not easy going first. I enjoyed the short video at the beginning of the presentation as it gave the audience the needed background for the rest of the presentation. Solution one, the postpartum care center was an interesting topic to hear. I understand the importance of the mother’s health in the postpartum period, but it is also important for the mother and the family to bond with the baby and learn the baby’s cues as they cannot stay in this center forever which is one of the challenges you provided. Thank you for clarifying that their family was also involved at the center during the question portion as it is important for the family unit to be involved. The second solution, E-Health is a good solution in today’s world and makes it easier for people to access services. Although, maybe having the women download the app prior to the postpartum period would be helpful to allow them time to get to know the app prior to the adjustment period of having a newborn. Your last solution is centering pregnancy. I agree with the fact that you guys made this your priority situation. Prenatal care and education can make the delivery and postpartum period easier for some women. I believe this is a relevant solution because not only does it provide the education needed it offers a support system to women going through similar stages of pregnancy. It is a service that is needed in Kamloops as we have seen with the events that occurred when the maternity clinical at the hospital tried to shut down.
The PowerPoint was laid out well. I enjoyed the background you guys selected as it offered a calming effect to a serious topic. The pictures you used in the presentation were simplistic enough that it did not draw your attention away from the information but were relevant to the topic. The font was generally easy to read, although some slides did have a lot of writing on them making it difficult so a suggestion would be to split up the information more or put the information into bullet points. At some points in the presentation the speaking was quiet and made it difficult to hear, however, you guys were good at recognizing this and tried to correct it. The Slido was a nice touch at the end of the presentation and allowed us to reflect on your solutions.
Most of the references that you used were from the last five years except for the video shown at the beginning of class. Although the video was from 2016, it was about different women’s experiences and any other data used in the PowerPoint had a citation within the last five years. The other references were also credible as they were studies or peer-reviewed articles from reliable sources. Overall, I enjoyed your presentation! It was well thought out and a relevant issue in Kamloops.

  4. Hello All,
Thank you for the lovely presentation on the importance of postpartum care, especially pertaining to the maternal side. A lot of times I feel like the health of the mother is under-prioritized over the health of the child, so to focus on this topic was a fantastic idea!

    Feedback on aesthetics:
I loved the graphics that were used throughout the presentation, it helped bring a lot of colour, but also did not take attention away from the content. I liked that after the video was playing, you guys checked with the audience on the video volume, only thing to note is that some presenters could have spoken a little louder. Overall, you all had great class engagement, got us to participate in the slido and built on the audience’s thoughts, with your knowledge and understanding of the topic. In regards to the activity, I think it would have been more beneficial to be more clear in both verbal, and also the slides on the intent. That is, when the slide was advanced too early, and students thought they were supposed to log on to the slido, while the activity was still being explained.

    Feedback on content:
In general, I appreciated that the solutions discussed were very in depth, including the strengths and feasibility within the local context, but that there was research that backed up EVERY detail and rationale. This research is well credible for example with BMC Health Services, which is a peer-reviewed general medical journal. All references are also within recency as outlined in the assignment guide. In solution 1, we learned about the postpartum care centres (Sanhujoriwon), that improves maternal role confidence, greater parenting efficacy, and has a lower experience on health related problems. The challenges you guys presented were then very real, not having enough midwives/maternity nurses in general, but also that there is a risk of taking away maternal and child bonding, as staff take on a larger role in child care. The second solution focused on ehealth, which you all deemed as not a priority, with great rationale as Kamloops would benefit more from what you present in the next solution, group session education and support. Solution 3 is the use of CenteringPregnancy within Kamloops, which hosts group sessions of women within the same trimester to help educate and make their own assessments, such as monitors BP, education on adult learning styles. This solution is interactive, which allows it to be much more efficient. The relevance to Kamloops is increased, as women of various stages of pregnancy (perinatal, postnatal) all need support, and with TRFO and breastfeeding clinic at public health being less accessible, this solution would be very feasible to implement.
