Hello everyone,
attached is a file of our presentation.
Thanks!
Overall you all talked at a speed that was easy to follow and you were within the allotted time. You have an appropriate number of references and I see that the reference page is formatted in APA which matches the APA style in-text citations on the presentation. However, I do see some line spacing errors in the reference page formatting, this is an easy fix that would make your reference page look more professional.
Your presentation is very appealing to the eye and uses images and shapes to convey knowledge however I do believe you could have added a video or interacted with the group to further support the audience’s understanding of the topic. You all did a great job at introducing your topic and having an agenda to outline the presentation so we know what to expect. Although this was not part of the rubric I found it a useful tool in organization. You also did a great job of providing a land acknowledgment. I believe that your problem of inadequate withdrawal management in hospitals, resulting in poor pain management and withdrawal-related issues is a very relevant topic to the population of people experiencing problems with substance use. You provided a great patient example that will help the audience better understand how this problem is happening in our local region and why it is important that this is addressed. However, as stated in the rubric you were to identify the population and the problem but the patient example was only to be on the poster and was not to be included in the presentation. You provided a great overview of an environmental scan that outlines solutions that are already active in Kamloops, I believe that if you expanded your research outside of Kamloops more you could have found more appropriate information and talked about how you would adapt that information to bring to Kamloops.
Solutions one was unique as it also talked about the strengths of nurses not only for the population. The second solution was one of my favorites as it focused on making care plans more unique to the patients which I believe is very important for treating patients struggling with substance abuse. The third solution of a patient navigator is a great idea as there are already patient navigators in the hospital and there is evidence that shows that they are helpful for patients. There would be a lot of practice experience and research to support implementing this into practice. Therefore this solution is the most feasible to make your priority solution. Lastly, when answering questions it was clear that you were all very knowledgeable on the topic and you chose a great topic for the expertise you have in your nursing practice.
Thank you all, Great presentation
Hello all,
Excellent job on your PowerPoint and presentation! All of your content was clear, and relevant to the population, problems, and solutions. You provided a good land acknowledgement in the begging and organized yourself well in the begging with an agenda. You also incorporated evidence-based literature throughout your presentation to support your knowledge about your topic. The content in your presentation was exceptionally well done as it was organized, easy to read and understand, and flowed very well! The point you made addressed your issue well. You used creative ways to deliver knowledge and support our understanding of the problem and solution. You did this by making creative ways of transitioning to each slide and designing an aesthetically pleasing PowerPoint, which captured my attention for the entirety of the presentation. No major grammatical errors exist. You have also created a clear and concise introduction and conclusion. Additionally, the words are easy to read, and the images are clear. The level of the presentation was made appropriate for the audience, and was suitably paced for audience understanding. The group went through successes and failures of each solution very well and concisely. You provided a good overview of each solution in an organized manner. Also ensured to include if the solution is situated in Kamloops or not. The priority solution chosen has good rational for why they chose it and explained in a manner that makes sense to the audience. Additionally, this priority solution sounds feasible to introduce and implement in Kamloops. All members presented during the presentation, and each used a natural conversation tone, volume, and appropriate amount of enthusiasm throughout the speech. The spoken sentences were complete, grammatically correct, and flow well together. Your word choice was good and the group spoke within the allotted time. Overall, very good job wrapping up and concluding everything. You responded appropriately to the audience’s questions and comments as you all seemed very knowledgeable on the subject and you were interested in the chosen subject.
All of your references cited are within the last five years and are reputable sources. I enjoyed how you brought in local resources, such as some from Interior Health. The resources you chose directly supports your knowledge provided us with evidenced-based literature. Furthermore, 10 or more references are cited and it shows that you have a variety of literature cited. Only a few minor errors exist with your APA citations, such as no italics on a few resources cited, capitalizing letters that should be under case, and including p. before the page numbers, which is not required. There were also a few line spacing errors. No plagiarism is noted as you did a really good job including your in-text citations where they were needed.
Overall, very good job on this assignment, I really enjoyed your presentation!
Hey team! Thanks so much for your great presentation.
Your three solutions were specific to your patient population that was clearly identified. All solutions were feasible, applicable to the Kamloops area, and were developed through evidence-based literature. Your solutions were developed well and all of them included a thorough definition, rationale, successes, and failures. Your first solution, education for existing nurses, would be easily applied to Kamloops and would be a cost-effective intervention. I really enjoyed your second solution, the idea of nurse-driven protocols, because as nurses we are the ones completing hands-on care for clients in withdrawal a lot of the time. With limited protocols and access to treatment medications, we are left defenseless in some situations.
Your priority solution is a relevant, feasible idea. The idea of utilizing a role that already exists and applying it to better fit the need for support within the identified population would be applicable in a local context. Adaption of a role would need to go through a trial process so time would be required for that to occur. Funding for said role would also be required. Both would most likely be achievable if approved by the right people. I wonder if the role of an Addictions Patient Navigator could also be supported by social work and what their current (if any) role is in assisting those with substance use disorders after discharge from the hospital. Would the patient navigator role be exclusive to nursing or would it encompass other interdisciplinary teams? This could have been an incorporated component to the solution to be able to identify what would be needed to incorporate this role within Royal Inland Hospital.
Overall your presentation was developed with a creative and engaging outlook. A supportive video or audience engagement could have enhanced the creativity and audience’s understanding of the material. The font was a legible size, and images supported the topic. All participants spoke clearly and had a good tone and pace throughout the presentation. Questions were answered with relevant personal knowledge and research-driven ideas. There seems to be a bit of a spacing issue on your reference list that could be fixed with minor changes to the layout but all references follow APA and are APA cited throughout the presentation. Your references were all within 5 years and you reached the minimum number of references required.
Great work I enjoyed your presentation!
Hi All,
You all did an exceptional job on your PowerPoint and presentation. I personally liked how you introduced yourselves, included a land acknowledgement and then addressed the case for your presentation. The PowerPoint is aesthetically pleasing. The content within the PowerPoint was easy to read and relevant to the case. I thought the presentation was very well organized and I liked the inclusion of the table of contents, it gave the audience an inside on what to expect throughout. The presentation definitely hit the mark of using three or more creative ways as you used transitions, colours and included GIFs. I did not notice any major grammatical errors. For the PowerPoint itself I am making a suggestion for next time on cutting back some of the text within the slides. Overall the PowerPoint looked great!
Your three solutions were very well thought out. Your first solution about educating nurses about symptom and withdrawal management in substance use was a very important point as we see more patients struggling with this in the health care setting than ever before. I liked how this solution brought some light to possible stigmas and how that can affect quality of care. Your second solution helped me learn about a new assessment tool for substance use symptom management that I had not heard of. The assessment tool COWS is something that I will remember and use in the future as you all made it sound like a great resource for withdrawal management. Your third and priority solution addressing the lack of a patient navigator for patients struggling with substance use stuck out to me because these patients deserve the same quality care as everyone else and having a navigator to create a treatment plan for these patients would be very beneficial. I think that the idea of a navigator is great for the priority solution, however I also really believe that educating nurses is a top priority.
The presenting component was well thought out. You all spoke during the presentation and you were able to keep your presentation within the allotted time frame. I liked how you all welcomed questions and were able to answer them in a professional manner. The volume of speech during your presentation could have been louder, as some parts of the presentation were hard to hear and a bit more eye contact with the audience are the only things that I noticed could have been improved upon.
Your presentation exceeded the number of evidence based references which is great as it shows that you thoroughly researched your topic. The APA throughout the presentation as well as the reference list looks up to standard. Overall great job!
Hello all, thank you for your informative presentation on people experiencing problems with substance use. The topic is quite relevant in B.C. and you made sure to note that. I appreciated how you included an agenda and patient example, which set the foundation for your presentation. Moreover, the environmental scan was great; however, it would have been nice to know where these solutions have been implemented.
The first solution on education around protocols felt relevant as education is needed everywhere. The rationale was also very clear to how it was beneficial. As a nurse, feeling more confident with a topic allows for more comprehensive care to be provided. The second solution around symptom management also made sense as it would be challenging for any individual to heal while under withdrawal symptoms. I appreciate the points around early awareness and standardization of treatments as discrimination is quite prevalent in this population. The third priority solution of creating a patient navigator role specifically for substance use is a great idea. I do not recall anyone mentioning where this idea comes from or has been implemented before, so I am curious about that and how it would equate to Kamloops. For the strengths, the presentation equates substance use to other complex chronic issues that have similar navigator roles assigned. I think this speaks to the lack of urgency around substance use problems. In terms of failures, there is much discussion about the limited research in other places like Alberta, but it would have been nice to hear your thoughts for the local context instead.
For the presentation aspect, I found the volume and pace to be adequate. The font size, colours and images on the slides were all great as well. I did feel that there were too many words on the slides however, making it hard to follow what was going on at times. To fix this, use fewer words on the slides that highlight the main ideas and speak about everything else. There was a good balance between all the speakers, but when not speaking some of the group members did not look professional. For example, I noticed one member leaning against the wall, another kicking their feet back and forth and a third looking at the ground the whole time. These may be habits, but you could have reminders on your scripts to do not do these things. For the most part, the references were done well. I noticed a few commas missing before the page numbers on the references page and the references slide did not have any indents on it. Overall, I would say most aspects of the presentation were done well, the group simply needs to work on the finer details to deliver an exceptional presentation.
